This Wednesday, the festival “Riga Rhythms 2021” – Music starts

The International Festival of Improvisation, Jazz and Global Music “Rīgas Ritmi 2021” will start with the concert of Rūdolfs Macatas Quartet in KK von Strick’s Villa this Wednesday, June 30, which will last until July 3.

Both foreign stars and local artists will take part in the 21st edition of the festival, which is cherished by Māris Briežkalns. Concerts will take place at VEF Culture Palace, music house “Daile”, “Jersika Records Stage” art center “Noass” on AB dam, as well as cultural space “M / Darbnīca” in KK von Strick’s villa quarter.

KK von Strick’s villa quarter in cooperation with the cultural space “M / Darbnīca” will host both a special satellite program of the festival and the official “jam session” evenings of “Rīgas Ritmi 2021” together with saxophonist Tomas Rudzinski, double bassist Tomas Poišs, drummer Ivars Arutjunjans and other jazz musicians. The festival’s satellite program will be performed by the Rudolf Macat Quartet on June 30, the Tomas Mikāls trio will perform on the terrace of M / Darbnīca on July 1, the Finnish pianist Tuomo Usitalo trio and the sextet of pianist Gata Breijers on July 2, and drummer Ivars Arutjunjans quartet.

The alternative program will also be viewed and listened to at the Art Center “Noass” on AB Dam, where “Jersika Records Stage” will operate – there will be publicly available concert shows of Latvian and Lithuanian artists, which will also be presented to music industry professionals and prestigious mass media journalists from abroad. Jersika Stage Stage will perform the jazz poetry project “listen” on July 2 (music and literary expressions are combined by poet Aleksandra Line, pianist Edgars Cīrulis and guitarist Kaspars Vizulis) and Kristaps Vanadziņš trio (will present their newly released records “The Love Garden Has Overgrown ”program), but the vinyl DJ set will be offered by Mareks Ameriks, the founder of Jersika Records. On July 3, guitarist Jānis Ruņģis will play music here (he is going to improvise freely with various other musical instruments), Lithuanian saxophonist duo Liudas Mockūnas and Arvydas Kazlauskas, as well as vibrophonist Miķelis Dzenuška with the group Uzvaras boulevard.

Of course, the biggest events of the festival will take place in the music house “Daile” and VEF Culture Palace. Thus, “Daile” will perform “Riga Jazz Allstars” together with pianist Viktors Ritovs and young singer Saijs Pauls on July 1, Lithuanian modern jazz master “Shinkarenko Jazz 4N” together with colorful singer Ned, on July 2, and pianist Kristaps on July 3. Vanadziņš with his musical friends, including Ieva Kerēvics. Grammy nominees, the powerful global music supergroup Bokanté, will perform at VEF Culture Palace on July 2, and Spanish saxophonist and singer Antonio Lizana, who plays in the new flamenco style, will perform on July 3.
