1. To update

   First of all, make sure you have the most recent version of WhatsApp on your iPhone by updating the app via the App Store. Check? Then continue with the step-by-step plan;

   Open WhatsApp, go to ‘Settings’, choose ‘Storage and data usage’ and tap ‘Manage storage’. You will now see how much storage WhatsApp uses in total and how much space is still available;

3. remove

   Do you want to delete forwarded gif files, photos and / or videos? Then tap the arrow at ‘Frequently forwarded’ or ‘Larger than 5MB’ and tick which media files you want to delete. Then press the trash can icon to delete them.

Be careful, because as soon as you tap the trash can, the files are permanently deleted. Do you want to watch the GIF, photo or video again? Then you have to ask the sender if he / she wants to send the file again. Don’t see the option ‘Manage storage’ yet? Then you have to be patient: the update is not ready for you yet.

The new feature is especially useful for cleaning up large amount of forwarded files in WhatsApp. Especially in group conversations, large amounts of media files are forwarded and you may not have the need / storage capacity to keep all those files.
