This scene went too far even for ‘The Suicide Squad’

We knew from the start that The Suicide Squad would receive an R-rating. It was also known that director James Gunn was allowed to go very far with his film. He could kill any character he wanted. In some of the film’s most gruesome moments, we see some of the Task Force X heroes die. Still other moments show how they deal horribly with the rebels of Sol Soria. Especially a scene in which Peacemaker and Bloodsport kill them is very big.

Almost went too far
During an interview with Variety, Gunn was asked about that exact scene. He revealed that Warner Bros. had a little trouble with this. And Gunn felt something himself “concerns”.

“Those things with Bloodsport and Peacemaker, I was skeptical about that. I loved the scene. It’s funny and delves into the heart of what the movie is about for me, which is the journey where Bloodsport begins to learn that a man and a “Being a leader doesn’t equate to being a toxic man. And that the path to a real man is reached through vulnerability. That scene is an important part of that, a scene where two people look at who has the biggest.”

“But, man, honestly I watched it in theaters the other day and I thought, holy shit, we’ve gone too far here. This was really on the edge of what we could do. There were also some Warner Bros studio bosses. …who called it that and said, ‘Aren’t we going too far here?’ And I think I said to that Amanda Waller explicitly told them to go to the camp and kill everyone, so they follow her orders and in a way she’s the antagonist of the movie. So yeah, I felt something there reservations.”
