This is what the “golden triangle” will look like in Hyères when its rehabilitation is complete

“It is the most important project of the mandate.” It was a rather proud Jean-Pierre Giran who invited the elected officials – majority and opposition (Were present Chantal Portuese and Nicolas Massuco., editor’s note) – Tuesday evening at the town hall for the presentation of the redevelopment of the Hyérois “golden triangle” .

Namely the area formed by the top of Avenue Gambetta and Avenues De-Gaulle and Joseph-Clotis. The Guillermin agency, already at the origin of the seaside promenade and Avenue Clotis, was selected for this project which extends over an area of 25,000 m2 of public space.

The mayor repeated his “desire to spare merchants and users as much as possible”. A compensation commission “will also be put in place for disrupted merchants”, he added. A major facelift presented by Mr. Guillermin in person, the first backhoe loader of which will be given next fall, the last is hoped for around summer 2025.

A project divided into three phases, corresponding to three specific geographical areas.

Gambetta high – avenue De-Gaulle

With its 6% to 8% slope, the top of Avenue Gambetta has an atypical profile. “This strategic but very degraded area” will be the first to be processed. A 4 m wide central passage will be created for delivery vehicles.

On the sides, the slope will be compensated by a terrace system with stairs and vegetation, “compatible with market animations”. A strong marking on the ground of the Place du Portalet will be carried out.

Facing the many underground networks, avenue De-Gaulle, this large pedestrian street will be treated by “exclusive street furniture” capable of accommodating climbing plants, on which pedestrians can sit and which will recall that of Clotis and the Ricciotti gallery, place Clemenceau.

Avenue Gambetta – Clotis – Moulis

In addition to strong markings on the ground at the Clotis – Gambetta crossroads, the Gambetta – J.-J. Perron – Moulis triangle will experience a small revolution. The top of Avenue Gambetta, which is currently two-way, will become one-way from north to south.

The direction of traffic on rue Pierre-Moulis will be reversed to allow vehicles to connect to avenue J.-J. Perron from the Carrefour des Dames de France (Lyautey). On the development side, the sidewalks will be widened to more than 4.5 m, while plants will be installed in large above-ground planters.

What is today a hybrid roundabout “will work like a real roundabout” (oval), more autonomously, without lights. Sidewalks will be won in front of the Ladies of France, the Guillaume Tell, the space reserved for the shuttle. All this made safe by street furniture.

Avenue Gambetta center and lower

The avenue symbol of the city “will be treated in a sober way, with the maintenance of trees and parking. On the other hand, the idea of a cycle path on the sidewalks is abandoned. Too difficult to put together, “the desire is to create an avenue Ambroise-Thomas by redoing this avenue which deserves it”, said the mayor.

A charter for businesses will be put in place to standardize the city centre. “We will go gradually, all the new ones will have to respect this charter, we will go gradually for the others.

Separating furniture and menu holders will be taken care of in this major project. A harmonization approach also shared by market stallholders.

Three phases

The project will run from October 2022 to April 2025 and will go through three phases, with breaks during the summer period. It will start from the north and descend towards the south (the lower part of Avenue Gambetta will be treated at the same time as the Portalet area).

Avenue des Îles d’Or will be redone at the very end of the work, once phases 1 and 2 have been completed, to avoid the passage of machinery on a rehabilitated surface and once the “hollow tooth” has been destroyed. and rebuilt.
