The 96th Academy Awards ceremony of the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was held this Sunday, March 10, leaving some without flavors among the public, but also framing historical moments.
Christopher Nolan’s film about the “father” of the atomic bomb, Oppenheimerwas crowned the big winner, taking home 7 of the 11 statuettes for which it was nominated, including three of the main categories: Best Director, Best Lead Actor (Cilian Murphy), and Best Film.
In a gala with few surprises, where the pools could be guessed from the nominations, one of the public’s pleasures was the recognition of Poor Things (Poor Creatures), by the Greek Yorgos Lanthimos, which won 4 of the 7 awards for which it was nominated, including Best Actress, for its protagonist Emma Stone, who at only 35 years old wins her second statuette.

The Oscar that Da’Vine Joy Randolph won for Best Supporting Actress was the only one for The Holdovers (Those who remain), and Billie Eislish for her song What Was I Made For? the only one for this year’s big box office hit, Barbie. Both films were also multi-nominated.
The dream disappeared for Latin America in the category of Best Foreign Film, where The Zone of Interest (The Area of Interest), another drama about World War II, took away the Oscar The Snow Societyalso taking the award for Best Sound.

With a double victory for Japan, the surprises came in the Best Visual Effects categories, where Godzilla Minus One, the big favorite of the internet audience, despite not being from a major Hollywood studio, took the award; and in Best Animated Feature, where veteran director Hayao Miyasaki triumphed with The Boy and The Heron (The Boy and The Heron).
It took Christopher Nolan 12 films and 53 years to win his first Oscar.
Wes Anderson, 11 films and 54 years.
