For eleven years, Charlene of Monaco (45) has been the country’s princess. The last few years have not been easy for the 45-year-old and her husband Prince Albert (64), and they have had to endure several unpleasant rumors about their marriage.

It is especially the princess’s state of health and the couple’s relationship that has been a topic, in addition to Charlene’s allegedly “cold and complicated” relationship with her sister-in-law Princess Caroline (66).
Monaco’s princess should, however, have a royal confidante in her life, writes Swedish Women’s Magazine.
Always just behind
Charlene’s close friend is Melanie-Antoinette Costello de Massy (38), who is often pictured by the princess’s side. Costello de Massy is often a few steps away from her friend during official events in Monaco.
The 38-year-old also has royal blood in his veins. Her grandmother, Antoinette, is the sister of the late Prince Rainier, Prince Albert’s father. That makes Costello de Massy’s mother, Elizabet-Ann, Prince Albert’s cousin.
It is not known if the 38-year-old has a formal role in the royal household, but she is said to be a close friend of the princess, who apparently appreciates having Costello de Massy by her side.
Family drama
According to Vanity Fair there must have been drama in the princely family in the past.
There were rumors that Melanie-Antoinette’s grandmother, Antoinette of Monaco, should have tried to deprive her little brother, Prince Rainier, Albert’s father, of the throne.
Reveals wild calculation
Despite Antoinette being the eldest of the siblings, her mother Princess Charlotte abdicated the throne in favor of her only son: Rainer. Antoinette and her husband Dr. Jean-Charles Rey allegedly planted a rumor that Rainer’s girlfriend at the time, Giséle Pascal, could not have children.
It is possible that it was these rumors that led to the breakup between Rainer and Giséle, but his sister’s plan was not to be successful as he shortly afterwards met Hollywood star Grace Kelly.
They had three children together, including Prince Albert.

A support for the prince
The family drama stopped at the next generation.
According to Daily Mail Costello de Massy has also been a good support for Prince Albert when his wife was ill. She has been photographed by the Prince’s side at a number of events since 2010.
She was also a friend to Charlene when she returned to Monaco after a long illness in South Africa, according to the website.
