Josine Droogendijk writes down her fashion blog about the brooch that Queen Máxima wears. The breast jewel is a gift that King William III gave to his fiancée, Princess Emma, on September 29, 1878. For Prince’s Day this year, Máxima had the sapphire, which is normally in the middle of this brooch, replaced by a citrine. In 2014 she also did this during a visit by the Swedish royal couple. The large sapphire was an heirloom of Queen Anna Paulowna, William’s mother. The conclusive evidence is as yet lacking, but it is suggested that Oscar Massin is responsible for the brooch’s design.
