Few artists can claim to have Cher’s fame around the world. The interpreter of “Strong Enough” first established herself as a fashion icon in the 1970s and 1980s. Then after no less than 54 years of career, the star is to date the only artist to have least one title ranked number 1 in the charts every decade since the 1960s in the United States. Cher can also take pride in having sold over 100 million albums worldwide. But this career could have been cut short following a grim assassination attempt.
In an interview with the Guardian, Cher revealed not without emotion that she had been the victim of an attempted murder. “A man tried to kill me “, she said, then recounting the scene that took place before one of her concerts in New York. : “I always got dropped off at the stage door when I was doing Come Back To the Five and Dime on Broadway.” And when she arrives at her destination, she finds herself facing an individual. But far from suspecting the evil thoughts of the individual, the singer thinks it is one of her fans or a member of the technical team. “I thought he was going to shake my hand, and he grabbed my arm and put it behind my back“, she was moved.
“He started pushing me down the alley, and he said, ‘If you make a noise, I’ll kill you.’ Two fans, who later became friends, saw that something was wrong, and they started screaming and ran towards me, and he ran away“, then entrusted Cher. An event that left some scars in the mind of the 74-year-old artist:”I don’t like going out now because everyone has a camera and it’s not safe. People are rushing you and you don’t know if they are going to kill you or take your picture. Anyway, I don’t like it ” she concluded.
