Thirty-eight (38) fiberglass canoes to fishermen by the Minister of Fisheries Aliou Ndoye

The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Alioune Ndoye, handed over 38 fiberglass canoes to fishermen, the Senegalese Press Agency noted on Tuesday in Ouakam, Dakar.

The beneficiaries of the new canoes will improve their working conditions and contribute to the surveillance of the Senegalese coasts, as well as to the protection of the country’s fishery resources, hopes Mr. Ndoye.

The boats, the cost of which is estimated at 177 million CFA francs, were offered to the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy by CFAO Motors Senegal, the Senegalese subsidiary of a distribution and services group. The Japan International Cooperation Agency contributed to the donation.

The donation ceremony took place in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Senegal, Arai Tatsuo, representatives of the Senegalese territorial administration and customary chiefs from Ouakam, a district where many fishermen live.
