Krefeld / Mönchengladbach. The concert season 2021/22 of the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker was presented

In great anticipation, full of zest for action and a love of music, General Music Director Mihkel Kütson presented the 2021/22 concert program of the Niederrheinische Symphony Orchestra. Once again he has come up with varied combinations of works, in which, in addition to the tried and tested, there is always the possibility of exciting new musical discoveries. Until the end of the year, the concerts are designed as a Corona protective measure with smaller orchestras, a reduced number of audiences and a duration of around 75 minutes without a break, after which Kütson and his team plan again with the large orchestra and full-length works.

In the 1st symphony concert, which starts this Tuesday (August 31st), the audience can look forward to a carefree program with the 2nd horn concert by Richard Strauss and the D major serenade by Johannes Brahms, which aims to awaken the summer mood. The soloist is the young Marc Gruber, who, according to Kütson, represents the new generation of horn playing. Cellist Emmanuelle Bertrand will finally visit at the end of October. In May 2020 she wanted to play the famous 1st Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saens with the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker, but the Corona lockdown prevented this.

In the second part of this concert, the 5th Symphony by Antonin Dvorak will be heard. The evening’s conductor is Erina Yashima. Currently assistant to Yannick Nézet-Séguin in Philadelphia, she will move to the local community theater as Kapellmeister for the 2022/23 season. In the 3rd symphony concert, an extraordinary instrument can be experienced with the theremin and soloist Carolina Eyck. This is an electronic instrument invented in 1920 that is played without direct contact. Rather, its futuristic, sometimes ghostly-like sounds are created by the player changing the magnetic field between the two electrodes of the Theremin through the movement and different positions of her hands. In Kalevi Ahos theremin concert about the traditional eight seasons of the cloth, the theremin can unfold its fascinating effect perfectly. This extraordinary sound experience is rounded off by the 2nd symphony by Jean Sibelius.

The 4th symphony concert is dedicated to the greatest seducer of mankind with compositions by Richard Strauss, Nino Rota and Frédéric Chopin: Don Juan. In April there will be a reunion with the violinist Alena Baeva, who will be presenting the violin concerto by Mieczyslaw Karlowicz as a real rarity. It is followed by the highly popular symphony “Pathétique” by Peter Tchaikovsky. Guest conductor Josep Caballé-Domenech will present a pure orchestral program with works by WA Mozart and Gustav Mahler in May, before the famous pianist Martin Stadtfeld will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s 4th piano concerto with the Niederrheinern at the end of the season. Another highlight at the end of the season will be the “Istanbul” symphony by Fazil Say, in which various Turkish instruments are integrated into the orchestra to characterize this metropolis.

In the choir concert, the “German Requiem” is on the program together with the Niederrheinischer Konzertchor, the opera choir and the theater’s extra choir; The chamber concerts attract with programs from Bach to Martinu. The new series for concert beginners “Kütsons Happy Hour” will also be continued. However, as before, “only” in Mönchengladbach, in Krefeld, the Symphony Orchestra is still looking for a suitable venue for these concerts in a relaxed after-work atmosphere.

Kobold Kiko whirls through music history again in 5 children’s concerts, as conductor Sebastian Engel is now at his side. If these children’s concerts have long been an integral part of the symphonic program, the educational offerings are being expanded considerably. From now on there will also be crawling concerts for 0 to 2 year olds, seat cushion concerts for 3 to 6 year olds and a variety of workshops: from backpack improvisation to composing with apps.
