They set a Norwegian record for the settlement. What does Rendalen have to do with Ukrainian refugees?

Ukrainian reindeer: Maksim (10) and Alisia (4) with mum Katerina and dad Ihor Zhevner. In April, the family arrived from Mykolajiv province in Østerdalen.

RENDALEN (Aftenposten): It is as if Oslo had to host 65,000 in one year. In Rendalen, a moss factory, two returned Rendøle and a special neighborhood agreement have become a magnet for Ukrainians.

In the country’s largest inland municipality, every resident has nearly 2 square kilometers to romp about.

Over the course of 20 years, the population of Rendalen decreased by nearly 500. There are now 1,722 people living here. But an increase in population is expected this year.

Because so far this year 60 Ukrainian refugees have found their new home in this vast municipality of Österdal. And every week from now on, the municipality’s refugee adviser will welcome a new family to Koppang Station.

Rendalen has agreed to settle a total of 110 refugees in 2022.

And more than half of the new inhabitants came more or less directly from the war.
