They seek medicine for cancer patients

Tijuana.- In the absence of medications for the oncological treatment of pediatric and adult patients, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) would be subrogating the services in the following days.

Without a precise date, the head of the IMSS Delegation, which includes Baja California and San Luis Rio Colorado, Desireé Sagarnaga Durante, mentioned that at the latest this Friday they will receive the feasibility of a private company in the health sector, to which they could send the cancer patients.

The shortage is at the national level, emphasized the delegate, recalling that this problem was identified since the beginning of the year, due to problems with supplies. Obtaining some keys for the purchase that was managed to bring from Argentina by the General Directorate of the IMSS.

The delegation received authorization to tender purchases in the locality, however, some keys are not available in Baja California, so the subrogation of oncology services was chosen.

“Right now we are in talks precisely with a clinic here in Tijuana and everything points to authorization,” said the doctor, as long as all the requirements are verified before the Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris).

With the verification of the quality of the treatment and the medications, the contract would be signed so that the clinic, which was said that the name cannot be released until its recruitment, receives not only pediatric patients, but also adults who require it.

The service would be for the clinic to receive chemotherapy treatment, “we are not buying medicine to give it to the patient, but the entire chemotherapy service,” concluded the doctor.
