The application of the vaccines for the coronavirus in children and adolescents found few adverse effects in Argentina, more associated with the application of the doses of Pfizer and Moderna than those of Sinopharm, although all of them without seriousness, assured pediatrician Elizabeth Bogdanovich.

Since last October, when the vaccination campaign began in that population, “cases have been found in children who have reported cough and fever five or seven days after receiving the Sinopharm vaccine, while in the case of RNA vaccines courier, such as Pfizer and Moderna, muscle pain and exceptionally cases of myocarditis or pericarditis were seen,” said the doctor from the Argentine Society of Pediatrics (SAP).

Vaccination for the coronavirus in children is recommended, since although the infection tends to be milder in this group than in adults, they can become seriously ill, require hospitalization and cause sequelae.

Meanwhile, children with underlying medical conditions are at higher risk for serious illness such as multisystem inflammatory syndrome, a condition in which different parts of the body (heart, lung, and gastrointestinal organs, among others) become inflamed.

In addition to the direct benefit of vaccination, immunizing children confers an indirect benefit by reducing virus transmission and thus contributing to herd immunity.
