The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) released a sentence of 38 years and nine months in prison for a couple who prostituted a young woman who they contacted through social networks to offer her a “good job.”
Those sentenced are Juan Rendón Raya and Sheila Alexandra Salazar Martínez, who were found guilty of the crime of trafficking in persons, in its modality of fraudulent action against an 18-year-old girl.
In order to “hook and transport a person for the purpose of sexual exploitation through prostitution,” Mexican authorities determined that the couple was responsible for deceiving the victim who contacted a false Facebook profile.
According to the investigation carried out by the Edomex Prosecutor’s Office, the events occurred in July 2019, when the 18-year-old was contacted through said social network by Sheila Alexandra.
The woman sentenced to more than 38 years in prison proposed to the victim a job whose salary would be well paid for every hour she worked, to which the young woman would have accepted immediately.
During July 4 and 5 of that year, the couple transported the victim on board in a car to different hotels located in the municipalities of Cuautitlán, Cuautitlán Izcalli and Tultitlán, where she was prostituted.
At the sites, the young woman was forced to have sex with different people, under constant threats of harm. The money that the victim received for said acts against his will had to be handed over to Rendón Raya and Salazar Martínez.
The victim reported the events to the Public Ministry of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Trafficking in Persons, an investigation folder was initiated and an arrest warrant was issued against both subjects.

Their arrest was registered in November 2019 and both were admitted to the Cuautitlán Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center. In addition to the more than 38 years in prison, the couple will have to pay fines of 3 million 210 thousand 620 pesos.
