The shipment of 2,622 boxes of narcissus bulbs started the export season of this product, propagation material that is produced in farms located in the province of Ranco, Los Ríos Region and whose health certification is carried out by the Agricultural and Livestock Service in the processing and packing plant located in the province of Osorno, Los Lagos Region.
The office was in charge of the company Bulbs of the Andes SpA, located in the commune of Puyehue.
As explained Paula Morales, Agricultural Engineer in charge of the company’s phytosanitary certification processes, “The destination of the bulbs is for the production of flowers against the season for final consumers.”
Morales added that “May and June are the months for exporting narcissus bulbs and the main cares in their production stage are irrigation and fertilization, but the main thing is to select a land that has good drainage and is relatively flat.”
According to Luis Alfredo Paredes, regional director (S) of SAG Los Lagos, the region has potential for the production of flower bulbs. “It is a business that has been in the area for more than 30 years, its growth and projection is due to the professionalism and compliance with company regulations, and above all to the sanitary standard of the soils that the SAG controls and protects. The absence of important plant diseases is undoubtedly a competitive advantage that must be taken care of and it is the pillar that contributes to diversifying our forestry activities in the area ”.
The regional authority of the SAG also said that “the availability of surface for plantations is a relevant factor and certainly the climate that is conducive to the multiplication of flowers.”
Last season (2020), the company Bulbos de los Andes SpA exported 791,350 units of narcissus bulbs, and this season the shipment of 1,238,470 units is projected, which means that exports increased by 56 % between one season and another.
