Given the impossibility for the royal companies to import vaccines against Covid, the Governor-elect, Samuel Garca, revealed yesterday that next week they will take people under 39 to get vaccinated to Laredo, after obtaining a donation of 16,500 doses.

Although he still does not have all the details of what he has baptized as “Vaccination Caravans”, Garcia said that these days he will coordinate with some companies to organize logistics and be able to help speed up the immunization process.

This project, he added, contemplates people under 39 years of age, who will not need a visa to travel and receive the vaccine.

He pointed out that the donation was obtained as a result of the tour he made to some places in the United States, such as Austin, San Antonio and Washington.

“From the outset, 15,000 vaccines were obtained from Austin and 1,500 vaccines from Laredo, as a first batch,” he said in the framework of a meeting between representatives of companies from Monterrey and Jalisco, organized by the Northeast Mexican Council of Foreign Trade (Comce ).

“The important thing is from here to Sunday to organize the logistics so that the companies of Nuevo Len, the old sectors like mine, that have not been vaccinated, that is, from 39 to below, can be moving to customs.

“And at the same customs office, on the same truck, a nurse with the vaccines will come up to puncture the men in a matter of minutes for the truck to return.”

The vaccines are from Johnson & Johnson and others that do not specify, but those that apply in the United States are Moderna and Pfizer.

“The project will be announced on Monday, but we have obtained both vaccines,” said Garca.

“I am aware that Laredo’s are Johnson, single-application, and Austin’s side is mixed.”

To date, to apply them in Mexico, the vaccines can only be acquired by the federal government, however, business organizations, together with federal agencies, have obtained donations of vaccines in US counties that have to be applied at the border .

This has been done by the Tijuana, Ciudad Jurez and Nuevo Laredo Indexes, which have been able to take employees, who do not necessarily have a visa, to a site determined by authorities in both countries.

Garcia announced that, in addition to vaccines, donations of medical supplies will soon be received.
