They demand the purchase of vaccines due to the increase in cases of monkeypox; fill it with pustules

activists of LGBTTTIQ + community organizations has symbolically closed the structures of the Health Secretary (Ssa), to ask for the purchase of vaccines for the increase in cases of monkeypox.

Dressed in monkey costumes, full of pustules and with posters in hand, the protesters called for an effective plan in the face of the spread of the epidemic.

They also requested that the delivery of false negatives cease Institute of Epidemiological and Reference Diagnosis (Internal).

Among the requests was also the request to take more samples for diagnosis, in addition to the immediate purchase of vaccines.

“Vaccine yes, smallpox no”, shouted the assembled groups, including VIHve Libre.

The complainants blocked part of the Masaryk and Horacio avenues, streets of the Polanco district, of the office of the mayor Miguel Hidalgo.

“WHO reports a 47% weekly increase in cases, even with this data, Mexican authorities do not want to act so that the infection does not spread beyond men who have sex with other men and the vulnerable population,” said Alain Pinzón, director of VIHve Libre.

In order for the protest to have more impact, with pink paste, the protesters simulated the typical pustules of monkeypox.

The groups that closed the Assa have warned that they will continue with the demonstrations until the federal government develops an effective action plan, guarantees real diagnoses and sensitizes the medical staff who treat patients, to avoid discrimination.

In this regard, on 7 September, the World Health Organization (WHO) indicated that it continues to recommend, for the treatment of outbreaks of this disease, that countries persist with a personalized combination of public health measures such as; testing, research and vaccination, where available, aimed at vulnerable groups.

At the start of the monkeypox epidemic, WHO indicated that biologics to protect vulnerable populations from this disease were in short supply around the world.
