They close the case of Gloria Moraga and urge the INDH to appeal – La Discusión

Friends, social organizations and feminist associations met yesterday in front of the Presidential Delegation to demand justice for Gloria Moraga, the only victim of eye trauma during the social outbreak in the Ñuble Region.

Moraga was informed that the Public Prosecutor’s Office will close the investigation of the case, for not having further precedents, a decision that the Guarantee Court accepted.

“We believe that there is a lot of negligence in the investigation that the Public Ministry closed, and we need to have someone responsible so that Gloria Moraga can have justice and reparation,” said her lawyer, Josefa Balmaceda.

From now on, it is the National Institute of Human Rights (INDH), as complainant, which can appeal within five business days.

Gloria Moraga, who on October 20, 2019, in the middle of a demonstration in Chillán, approached to help a young man who was dragged by uniformed officers and was injured in the face, an impact that caused him to lose an eye; she stated that “it is the INDH that now has the power. Today (yesterday) the case was closed, and if they do not appeal, this will go unpunished. As a victim, my feeling is that I have not had justice. Everything has been done wrong, the procedures for the evidence have not been effective, and the police have provided erroneous information since the day they attacked me. The Public Ministry, moreover, has not investigated the facts well, ”she said.

Gloria Moraga added that she had the opportunity to speak with Senator Fabiola Campillai, who interceded for her before the INDH to request that the case not be closed. “Many cases are being closed at the national level because there are no complainants. The INDH has very few complaints, and we do not want the 467 victims of ocular trauma to remain in impunity,” she asserted.
