The homophobic statements of Yusimy González Herrera, director of Communication and Content of the Cuban Radio and Television Institute (ICRT) were filtered and shared in the Show Hello Ota-Ola, quickly causing many people to demand the resignation of the official.
González Herrera made his statements in what appears to be an internal meeting of the institution with directors of radio programs. In this space he showed his complete rejection of what he calls “platinum voices” in the male announcers of the Cuban radio.
“To be more specific, you are platinized you are bland, you are soft, you are tame. And it’s not just about announcers. They are journalists and they are collaborators. There are collaborators… My Lord! ” he is heard to say in a surprised and angry tone.
According to Yusimy, these voices intervene in the quality of the transmission of the radio message and should be avoided why subtract credibility and professionalism from radio in Cuba.

The official was aware of the controversy caused by her words. She dedicated part of her speech to try to “save” your harsh censorship message to the “platinum voices”.
“I do it with all respect and responsibility, to me what interests me is professionalism, not anyone’s sexual orientation”, He indicated reiterating that the word, the rhythm and tone are the tool of the Cuban radio and carry a design.
These words are interpreted by the LGBTIQ community as an affront to point out that their voices are not professional, and for questioning the commitment and validity of their work and dedication to the profession.
Citizen Rogelio Rivas, a Cuban stunned with the recent statements of the Director of Communication of the ICRT, questioned on the social network Facebook:
“ICRT again with its institutional homophobia! I would like friends from radio and TV to give me their opinion on this, because this is the biggest disrespect in recent times for the LGBTI community. So, Yusimi González Herrera, a homosexual is not a good professional? ”.
The Director of Communication and Contents of the ICRT blames radio program managers first that the “Platinum voices” spread on Cuban radio. Also, holds the artistic council and the management councils responsible of the different radio stations, calling them permissive.
