Sony is expected to present the Xperia 5 II at the IFA in Berlin in September. A few weeks before the event, the smartphone shows itself through renderings unveiled by a props designer. Unsurprisingly, it marks the return of the 21: 9 cinema format and is less imposing than the Xperia 1 II.

The special feature of Sony smartphones is that they are much longer than the competition models. The manufacturer remains faithful to the unique 21: 9 ratio introduced since last year. The Xperia 1 II launched in May 2020 is all the more imposing as it sports a screen with a diagonal of 6.5 inches. If you prefer a more compact model with the same high-end features, the Sony Xperia 5 II is expected to debut in the fall.
If the leaks can come from all kinds of sources, props designers are often the first to unveil a 3D rendering of the most anticipated smartphones. A protective shell for the Xperia 5 II has just appeared on the Alibaba site. The images give us the first glimpse of what the smartphone might look like.
Xperia 5 II: here is the first look at its design
He resumed the same design as the Xpeia 1 II with the same 21: 9 ratio. However, the smartphone seems more compact in its dimensions, like the Xperia 5 from last year. This does not mean that it is made for small hands. As a reminder, the screen of the Xperia 5 is a diagonal of 6.1 inch. We are far away the 5-inch format of the compact Xperia XZ 2, Sony’s latest compact smartphone launched almost two years ago.
The manufacturer also does not seem to have resolved to integrate the fingerprint counter under the screen. As you can see from the pictures, the fingerprint scanner is positioned on the side edge of the Xperia 5 II. The most surprising detail is on the back. There is indeed a triple photo sensor, but there is a problem. If the Sony Xperia 5 II is as shown here, it will not have LED flash.

The optics located between the three sensors is none other than the ToF 3D module. The flash and the ambient light sensor are supposed to be positioned at the top of the slot dedicated to the photo modules, as you can see in the illustration of the Xperia 1 II sensors below.

But the renderings published by props often present gaps, with missing details. It is impossible for the Xperia 5 II to ignore the LED flah. The final configuration of the sensors on the back should be very close to that of the Sony Xperia 1 II. For the rest, the smartphone should position itself in the high-end segment like the Xperia 5. Under the hood, we will find the SoC Snapdragon 865 accompanied by a 5G modem. The processor should be supported by 8 GB of RAM and a minimum storage of 128 GB.
