These problems move the BG Göttingen

Giant queue in front of the entrance: because of the admission control, it reached beyond the MagentaSport TV outside broadcast vehicle. 2

Strong backdrop against the top team Bayern Munich, but the BG Göttingen have various problems.

The spectator problem

Shortly before half past two, Frank Meinertshagen got a little restless at the VIP entrance before the Bayern game. “Only 737 spectators in the hall,” he read in an app on his mobile phone, which tells how many fans are already registered in their seats. Outside in front of the entrances to the S-Arena, a huge queue had formed waiting for the corona control at the entrances. “2G” currently requires a lot of patience. In the end there were 3313 spectators (best visit since March 7, 2020 against Hamburg) at the BG game against Bayern Munich. More than ever this season. Could there have been that many for the last time? If even stricter admission measures are ordered again? “2G +” is definitely not a solution for Sunday home games, said the BG managing director. Meinertshagen: “There aren’t that many test opportunities for around 3,000 fans at the weekend in Göttingen.” And even at home games on Saturday it will be difficult. The BG will continue to deal with the issue of viewers.

The center problem

BG trainer Roel Moors had other problems, namely sporting ones, after the 66:80 against Munich. The referees were not the problem, he said officially, in order not to be prosecuted by the BBL. Later other tones could be heard. For the second home defeat, however, the Veilchen team itself was responsible for the first time.

The BG-Center (or “Big Men”) James Dickey, Philipp Hartwich and Harper Kamp suffered most of the coach frustration. The Belgian was not satisfied with their performance. The “inside presence”, which means the zone under the opposing basket, was “totally absent”, complained Moors. This zone is shown on the statistics sheet as “Points in the Paint”, ie in the color-coded area under the basket. The BG got 28 points, but FC Bayern got 36. Moors also classified the two-man quota as “again very weak”: 15 of 40 throws hit, made a thin 38 percent. And Moors calculated: Hartwich three points, Dickey four points, Kamp four points – these meager eleven points were compared to 18 Bayern big man Deshaun Thomas, whom the BG could not stop.

Will the BG therefore retrofit again in the center position? “That is not planned,” said Meinertshagen in the negative. Moors would like to, but pointed to the financial resources. The problem: Dickey and Hartwich recently lacked assertiveness.

The overview

With the game against Bayern, the BG (slipped to ninth place) has now played against six teams in the current top eight – only against Chemnitz and Crailsheim not yet. Now it goes on against the teams from the lower half of the table (only against the surprise bottom light Oldenburg no longer).

The outlook

December is going to be tough for the violets. After the free last weekend in November (international match window), on which the BG players can take a two-day break, the strong newcomer Heidelberg continues – the first of six games in the last month of the year. Then come the MBC and Crailsheim, before the Veilchen finish in 2021 with three away games in Chemnitz, Würzburg and Ulm. And on January 2, 2022, the home derby against Braunschweig will take place. haz / gsd-nh

Not enforced enough: BG center James Dickey (on the ball) against Munich’s Augustine Rubit.
