Which iOS 13 an unusual course of updates has been evident since the very first version in September. Updates were released in rapid succession, sometimes with less than a week in between. Also in the last months of iOS 13 Apple creates surprises. While soon iOS 14 is revealed, Apple is still coming with new features in iOS 13.6. The beta of iOS 13.6 is being tested and some new features have already been discovered, as well as future improvements. What are the most important and what features can you expect when iOS 13.6 comes out?

# 1 Automatic download and installation of updates
The iPhone and iPad have had an option to auto iOSinstall updates, but in iOS 13.6 Apple wants to adjust this. There is now only one switch that allows you to automatically install the updates overnight as soon as they are downloaded, but there will be a fork in iOS 13.6. There will be two switches: Download iOSupdates and Install iOS updates. So you have the control that an update can be downloaded automatically, but not just installed.

# 2 Record symptoms in Health
The Health app let you already capture all kinds of data, both through apps and by entering them manually. In iOS 13.6 there will be an option Symptoms Bee. With it you can record all kinds of ailments, such as headache, acne, chest pain, muscle pain and much more. The addition of this feature is undoubtedly due to the corona virus. The Symptoms feature helps you keep track of when you first started having problems and for how long you have been suffering from such complaints. With every complaint, Apple also explains what this entails.

# 3 Bundles of services
It is not yet known whether this feature will be introduced in iOS 13.6 in the short term or whether it is only preparatory work for iOS 14. This is because new hints have been found in the code of iOS 13.6 (previously iOS 13.5.5) that point to the bundling of multiple services. So you could save money by subscribing to both Apple Music as Apple TV + and Apple News +. Should Apple adding this feature, it remains to be seen whether it will be available worldwide. Apple News + is still missing in many countries. It is therefore hoped that Apple will release separate bundles for countries where Apple News + is not available.

# 4 iPad brightness via keyboard
In addition to iOS 13.6, Apple is also working on iPadOS 13.6. It found clues to a new option to adjust iPad brightness via keyboard shortcuts. This is not possible with Apple’s Smart Keyboards and Magic Keyboard for the iPad, because there is no separate row of function keys on it. Some other keyboards do, but a specific hotkey would allow you to adjust the brightness with any keyboard.

# 5 Apple News + Audio
And speaking of Apple News +: for users in the US, among others, there will be a function called Apple News + Audio. Whether it is only preliminary work for iOS 14 whether it really appears in iOS 13.6 is not yet clear. As a subscriber, the feature allows you to listen to news stories instead of reading them yourself. A special Audio button will appear in the menu bar where you will find spoken news stories. Although we cannot make use of this in the Netherlands for the time being, it is good to know what the possibilities are if the News app ever becomes available in the Netherlands.

iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6 will be tested in the coming weeks and will probably appear before you this month or next month iPhone and iPad. Apple is also expected to launch the beta of iOS 14 later this month, so it’s going to be a busy time for testers.
