This mosquito repellent is really good

The summer months are the most beautiful time of the year for most people. Sun until late in the evening, delicious food and drinks with friends – everything could be so beautiful if it weren’t for the mosquitoes. But there is a solution: mosquito repellent should protect against bites. Stiftung Warentest tested 21 anti-mosquito products.

Four times the verdict was “good”, three times “satisfactory”, nine times sufficient and five times unsatisfactory. Six mosquito bracelets, which were also tested, failed. The good news: ideally, the best means to ward off the bloodsuckers for eight hours. The bad news: Most products irritated the eyes and mucous membranes.

The test persons had the least irritation with the Autan mosquito repellent Junior Gel * ???? with the active ingredient Icaridin. However, it only provided adequate protection against stings.

How well or how badly a product protects was tested over time. The time after application was measured until the first, second or third stitch. The testers focused on three mosquito species: the diurnal yellow fever mosquito, the southern house mosquito and the malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae.

The five test subjects were in an air-conditioned room and were protected by special protective clothing, only one forearm was uncovered. The stab protection was included in the assessment with 50 percent, 25 percent made up the health assessment (irritation and odor nuisance), ten percent each involved handling and declaration and five percent textile protection played a role.

These are the winners and losers of the mosquito repellent test:

The three best mosquito repellents
Autan Insect Protection Protection Plus * ???? (approx. 8 euros for 100 ml)
Anti Brumm Forte * ???? (approx.8.45 euros for 75 ml)
Nobite skin spray DEET 50% * ???? (approx.11.00 euros for 100 ml)

The three worst mosquito repellents
Hansaplast anti-insect spray (7.40 euros for 100 ml) – only available in Austria
Neudorff mosquito repellent spray (approx. 6.00 euros for 100 ml) – according to the provider, this product is no longer sold. There are still remaining stocks in the trade.
Anti-mosquito oil (approx. 8.00 euros for 30 ml) – according to the provider, no longer in the program.

Beware of mosquitos! Incidentally, there are anti-mosquito bracelets * ????, which should reliably keep the little pests away. Worn on the wrist or in the hair, they are said to offer effective protection against stings – with lemongrass and lemongrass oil instead of chemical repellents. According to the manufacturer, a bracelet offers up to ten days of mosquito protection. You can wear the waterproof wristbands around your wrist or ankle or as a hair tie in your hair, or tie them to prams or beds.
