(CRHoy.com) All medications and injections have side effects and the pediatric vaccine against COVID-19 is no exception.
This was explained by Dr. Maria Luis Ávila, an infectious disease specialist at the National Children’s Hospital (HNN).
The doctor also said that the effects could often be “causal or coincidental” with the vaccine.
Clinical studies and analyzes after vaccination of more than 8 million children under 12 years of age in the United States reported the following side effects:
- Pain at the injection site.
- Fever.
- Possibility of outbreak on the skin.
“These are adverse effects that can occur with other vaccines, with other medications and much more with acute infection by the Sars-CoV-2 virusAvila said.
For adolescents ages 12 to 18, the studies found other side effects.
One of them is the possibility of developing Myocarditis, which is an inflammation of the heart muscle. There have also been cases of Pericarditis, an inflammation of the membrane that covers the heart.
These effects occur in male adolescents, and would be associated with high testosterone levels and “that this has interfered with its presentation.”
“But if you compare cases of myocarditis caused by the Sars-CoV-2 virus and those that can be attributed to the vaccine, there are more caused by the virus ”, explained the doctor.
Of course, clinical trials did not find this adverse effect in children under 12 years of age because at those ages “his testosterone is still low.”
