These are the sanctions that will affect Russia – VG

WARNINGS SANCTIONS: US Vice President Kamala Harris at the security conference in Munich.

MUNICH (VG) US Vice President Kamala Harris says Russia will face the heaviest sanctions ever, if the country launches a military attack on Ukraine.

Published:

– We have prepared sanctions that will come quickly, will be serious and coordinated, says US Vice President Kamala Harris at the security conference in Munich on Saturday.

– We will affect Russia’s financial institutions and industry. We will also hit those behind any military actions, she added.

At the same time, the United States will further strengthen NATO’s defense in Eastern Europe, according to Harris.

“Our forces will not fight in Ukraine but they will defend every inch of NATO territory,” she said.

– Robust package

EU President Ursula von der Leyen also discussed planned sanctions against Russia, earlier on Saturday. She said that plans for sanctions against Russia are coordinated between European countries, the United States and Canada:

– We have prepared a robust package of financial sanctions. It will inflict high costs on Russia and enormous consequences for Russia’s economy, von der Leyen said.

Both the US Vice President and the EU President say that a strict export control of goods to Russia will be initiated.

Russian authorities are not present at the Munich conference for the first time. Moscow has denied that it is planning any military attack on Ukraine.

– The rearmament continues

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg reiterated the message that the risk of conflict is real. NATO has not yet seen any downsizing.

“On the contrary, the rearmament continues,” he said.

USAs president Joe Biden said on Friday night that he is convinced that Russia will attack Ukraine in the next few days – and that the capital Kyiv is a target.

The United States estimates that Russia has now deployed between 169,000 and 190,000 troops near Ukraine.
