These Are Different Symptoms of the Early Infection of COVID-19 Vs Long COVID

Some patients COVID-19 those who have been declared cured are reported to experience prolonged symptoms. This long-term symptom phenomenon is also known as “long Covid” and until now researchers are still trying to unravel the puzzle.

The general chairman of the Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI), dr Agus Dwi Susanto, SpP (K), FISR, FAPSR, explained that all groups of patients could have the possibility of experiencing long Covid. Starting from patients in vulnerable groups, to patients with no comorbidities from the start.

“This can occur as a result of a process when pain causes persistent anatomic abnormalities, eventually affecting functionally,” said Dr. Agus in a press conference broadcast by BNPB, Thursday (3/12/2020).

The symptoms of long Covid are explained differently from the symptoms that occur at the time COVID-19 first infected.

The most obvious difference is in the nature of the symptoms. For example, Dr.Agus said that the symptoms of long Covid were mostly chronic in nature, ranging from fatigue, shortness of breath, palpitations, pain to depression.

“While the symptoms of COVID are acute symptoms. Usually such as fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, which in nature appear within a few days to several weeks. Then accompanied by a history of contact or a positive PCR result,” said Dr. Agus.

“The patient is declared long Covid the statement must be cured first and usually from a negative swab. Then there are varied persistent symptoms, “he concluded.
