There will soon be no more updates for these Fritz boxes

The Fritzbox routers from the German company AVM are widespread in Germany – especially because the manufacturer often provides his devices with updates over the long term. But these devices will soon be over.

The Berlin company AVM has with its Customers a good reputation: the Fritzboxrouter are often a bit more expensive than retail devices from retailers – well-thought-out functions, good usability and a generally good supply of updates ensure that customers in Germany still choose AVM routers in large numbers.

But even at AVM, the products are only provided with new software versions and support for a finite amount of time. If a product is getting old, a date for “End of Maintenance” (EOM) and for “End of Support” (EOS) will be set at some point.

At some point the end of support will also come for Fritz boxes

After the EOM expires, there are no more updates and patches, after the EOS, AVM no longer provides manufacturer support. By the way, the product guarantee remains unaffected, emphasizes AVM. It is usually valid for five years.

There are currently three Fritzbox routers in which the EOM and EOS data are known but have not yet expired.

  • The FRITZ! Box 7581 has not received any updates since the end of November 2019, but manufacturer support will still be provided until May 31, 2020.
  • The FRITZ! Box 7580 will receive updates until January 2, 2021. Manufacturer support will then expire on November 30, 2022.
  • The FRITZ! Box 6590 Cable will continue to receive updates until the end of 2020; manufacturer support ends six months later, on June 30, 2021.
