Over the weekend, the increase in the number of infected people decreases due to a smaller number of coronavirus tests performed.

Of the people whose coronavirus infection has been confirmed in the Czech Republic since the beginning of the epidemic, about three quarters have already recovered and 421 have died. The number of deaths on Saturday rose by two. Since about mid-July, the number of currently ill patients has been steadily growing, ie the number of confirmed cases of the disease after deducting the cured and dead. There are now 6,132 patients, the most during the epidemic.

Last week, the number of people who ended up in hospital due to Covid-19 increased. According to the latest data on the ministry’s website as of Friday, August 28, the number of hospitalized since the previous Friday has increased by almost a third to 156 and the number of patients in serious condition by two-fifths to 32.

This week, the share of newly confirmed cases in the number of tests performed also gradually increased. It was about 3.5 percent on Monday, 4.2 percent on Tuesday and 4.5 percent on Wednesday. On Thursday, the share of positive tests fell below four percent, but on Friday it rose again to about 4.8 percent, which was the highest share this week.

The most significant increases in the number of people infected in the previous days were recorded in Prague and the district of Příbram. However, they have now been surpassed by the Hodonín region, where over 43 new cases of covid-19 have increased per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. In Prague and the Příbram region, there were about 41 new cases per capita in the past week.
