“There is the decision in PSD for me to be the prime minister in the press”

The president of PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, announces for the first time that Nicolae Ciucă will no longer be the prime minister of Romania, “for sure”, if he takes over the PNL leadership. However, in the coalition there was an agreement for PNL and PSD to divide their mandate as prime minister during the governing period, but now there will be no doubt that from May, 2023, Nicolae Ciucă will lose the position of prime minister, if he will be appointed president of the Liberals.

“At this moment, I will tell you with certainty, if Ciuca becomes PNL president, with 100% certainty the post of prime minister, from May, 2023, will be taken over by PSD. It remains to be seen who will appoint PSD prime minister. At the moment I am nominated to take over the position of Prime Minister in the press, but there is still a year until then. What is certain is that Ciuca will no longer be prime minister, now there is no crack that this will happen “, said Marcel Ciolacu in the show on RTV.

The PSD leader also admitted that it is possible that the Liberals will prepare Ciuca to run for the Romanian presidency, after he will take over the party leadership. “It is their right to nominate him as a candidate,” Ciolacu said, adding that PSD will also have a suitable candidate for the country’s leadership.

“Who is running for the presidency of the country, when, how, I don’t think the Romanians are interested. I announced that in our PSD the custom is over that the party president must be the candidate for the country’s presidency. It’s over because it did a lot of harm to the party. We will hold internal elections in each county so that each mayor, deputy mayor and local elected official can express himself in terms of the best candidate “, Ciolacu commented. He added that in addition to Alexandru Rafila, PSD can also come up with other strong names that have credibility in front of the electorate. “A personality may come to run for PSD, but there will be open competition in the party,” Ciolacu said.
