UCI, the International Cycling Union, announced in a press release that the cyclist of the Jumbo-Visma team will be suspended until May 7, 2021, i.e. for 9 months from the date of the accident.

In the final of the opening stage of the Tour de Pologne, Groenewegen fought with Fabio Jakobsen and sent his younger rival to the rails. The Deceuninck-Quick-Step rider crashed through them, hit the referee and crashed into the fence surrounding the finish line.
Groenewegen fined
The Dutchman was immediately given help. The 23-year-old suffered serious facial and chest injuries: he had fractured jaw bones, lost almost all his teeth and broke his thumb. Doctors pulled him out of the hospital in Sosnowiec, where the young sprinter was operated on. His condition improved, he underwent jaw operations in October, already in the Netherlands.
Groenewegen took responsibility for the accident and has not participated in races since the accident. The Dutchman emerged from the crash with a broken collarbone, and his team, Jumbo-Visma, suspended him pending a decision by the disciplinary committee.
The UCI announcement also says that Groenewegen will be taking part in “events for the cycling community”, although it is not clear what these are.
