Jakarta –
Action bank account with Social Engineering (koceng) has been happening lately. For example, false information on social media networks in the name of the bank.
Recently circulated screenshots containing a short message, and a link about changing the BRI ATM administration fee of IDR 150,000 per month with unlimited transactions.
There are several customers who are victims of this fraud. One of them comes from Padang whose video has gone viral on social media. The victim went to the BRI work unit and claimed to be a victim of soceng as a result of giving the perpetrator a user, password, OTP (One Time Password).
Other fraudulent acts on behalf of Bank BCA. The cover is an offer to become a priority customer to trick the victim.
Not only that, offers also occur on social media through fake BCA accounts. Director of BCA Haryanto T Budiman said that recently cybercrime cases have become increasingly crowded in the digital era. One of them is online fraud such as the appearance of advertisements on social media and asking for personal data such as credit card numbers, PINs to OTP.
Another mode on behalf of BCA is an offer to upgrade to BCA Solitaire and Prioritas via telephone and WhatsApp. The same mode is also found on Instagram.
The rise of this fraudulent activity invites a response from the banking sector. The bank asked the public not to provide vital information to anyone.
“BRI always urges customers to be more careful and not to disclose the confidentiality of personal data and banking data to other people or parties on behalf of BRI, including providing information on personal data and banking data (account number, card number, PIN, user, password, OTP). etc.) through channels, links or websites with unofficial sources and cannot be accounted for,” said Aestika in a written statement, quoted on Saturday (18/6/2022).
In line with Aestika, Haryanto said the same thing. “This should be wary of customers, because banks never ask for your personal data. Never give personal data to anyone,” he added.
Haryanto added, never trust callers with the prefix 021 or +62. This is because BCA’s phone number is 1500888 and BCA’s official Whatsapp number is 08111500998 with a green tick.
Aestika and Haryanto urge the public to contact the bank only through official contacts, either through the website, or verified social media.
