Theater – Würzburg – Würzburg wants to keep the directors of the Mainfranken Theater – culture

Würzburg (dpa / lby) – The city of Würzburg now wants to negotiate a new contract with the director of the Mainfranken Theater, Markus Trabusch. “This decision makes it clear to the more than 200 employees that Markus Trabusch’s directorship at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg will continue beyond 2021,” said culture officer Achim Könneke.

Before that, the city council had again debated that the director would be employed. According to the city, there was a cross-faction application. At the beginning of April, it was said that the 58-year-old should not get a follow-up contract. The acting director’s current contract runs until the end of August 2021. Trabusch was initially unavailable on Monday.

According to information from the “Main Post”, mayor Christian Schuchardt (CDU) and culture officer Könneke were against another five-year contract for Trabusch. There was criticism, for example, of the director’s management style.

The 58-year-old worked at theaters in Freiburg, Zurich, Munich and Stuttgart as well as at the Brussels State Opera and the Frankfurt Opera. For seven years he directed the acting and director training at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. From 2007 to 2014 he was director of drama at the Augsburg Theater.

The Mainfranken Theater is currently being renovated. In the season 2022/23, the expanded house is to be reopened as a state theater. Because of the Corona crisis, there are currently no performances.
