Theater maker Marc de Hond passed away at the age of 42 | NOW

Marc de Hond died on Wednesday at the age of 42, his father Maurice de Hond reports Twitter. Bladder cancer was discovered at the theater maker in 2018.

In March, De Hond said he did not know how long he still has to live. “As long as my situation is not hopeless, I prefer to remain partially in denial,” said the former basketball player of the Dutch wheelchair team.

De Hond married in November 2019 with all-around athlete Remona Fransen, with whom he had been together for nine years. With French he had two children: Livia and James, who was born in August.

In 2020 De Hond made the theater performance Progressive Insight. By being interviewed by famous Dutch people, he wanted to make a portrait of himself for his two children.

De Hond was born in Amsterdam in 1977 as the son of pollster and entrepreneur Maurice de Hond and Jasmin Dahlia Busnach. His mother died of breast cancer in 1980 at the age of thirty. De Hond had one brother and after his father remarried, he had one half-brother and three half-sisters.

In 1999 De Hond started as a DJ at 3FM. A previous appearance as a guest on the NCRV radio program BuZz liked it so much that a few weeks later he was asked to do a weekly webcast program WWW to present with the theme internet. The following year De Hond became presenter of BuZz.

In wheelchair after medical error

The theater maker ended up in a wheelchair in 2002 after a medical error during treatment for a tumor in his back, which led to a spinal cord injury. De Hond wrote the book about this in 2008 POWER – the new life of an optimist.

From 2006, he worked as a television presenter and commentator, including in wheelchair basketball games during the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
