A well-known stage construction company developed a theater with balconies so that it could function during the pandemic.
The coronavirus problem caused a total stop to entertainment shows such as recitals or works by theater. This meant a great economic crisis within this sector that led them to think about possibilities to be able to function again.
In the United States a stage construction company in conjunction with a performance company developed a new theater with balconies that would help maintain the required social distancing.
Under the name of “Vertical Theater Group” (Vertical Theater Group), the proposal consists of a theater that can be mounted as if it were a marquee, whose structure has a balcony design that allows to delimit the space between the public.
The structure was designed by “Stufish Entertainment Architects”, who are responsible for setting up stages for the world tours of various international artists such as U2, Beyoncé or Monty Python.
The place does not have walls which allows the constant free circulation of air. The public would be divided into private spaces with a capacity of between 4 and 12 people.
The objective is to find a place where the largest number of spectators can be convened and to maintain prevention measures. This is something that in conventional theaters is not possible since the capacity had to be reduced to achieve a space of two meters between each person.
The idea is to produce it in two versions, described Ric Lipson, a partner at Stufish Entertainment Architects. One of them will be a structure similar to the one used in construction sites and will work for temporary shows.
The other will contain a better quality of materials that will allow it to last longer and provide greater comfort.
The estimated construction time is two weeks, which at the moment would be problematic due to the intense rhythms of international tours. Entrepreneurs speculate on the possibility of setting up a theater and that are used for various works.
At the moment, companies are looking for investors in the project, which will depend on whether the reality of the pandemic undergoes some kind of improvement.
