The Xunta will mark the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Vigo after an agreement with the hoteliers | Radio Vigo

The first vice president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, signed today with the president of the Provincial Federation of Hospitality Entrepreneurs of Pontevedra, César Ballesteros, a protocol to install the approved signaling of the Camino in the premises of the hotel business in Vigo that are located on the route of the Camino Portugues de la Costa. The Xunta thus offers an alternative to the section of the route in the city, the only one without official signs as it does not have municipal authorization.

Alfonso Rueda thanked the industry collaboration to launch this initiative that will allow locals who wish to exhibit some vinyls donated by the Xunta to guide pilgrims on their journey towards Compostela, one of them with the shell that represents precisely the walkers and another with the arrow that indicates that it is an official itinerary. In this case, the route of the Camino Portugues de la Costa was officially recognized in 2009 and was one of the ones that grew the most in influx in recent years.

For this reason, the first vice president of the Xunta regrets that the mayor of Vigo has been maintained since 2018, when the project to mark this route began, in its refusal to install reference elements for pilgrims in the city that contribute to facilitating their journey. In this sense, he stressed that roads are a source of wealth and it is up to the administrations to put them in value.

In addition, he recalled the commitment of the Xunta so that The city will have the pilgrims’ hostel that it deserves in this Xacobeo 21-22, in which it invested 1.6 million euros. The new public hostel will accommodate 93 people in a six-story building with accessible facilities to respond to the demand for accommodation and with which to contribute to improving the city and the Jacobean experience.
