The Xunta closes A Coruña and Arteixo and limits meetings to people living together

The Xunta de Galicia announced the perimeter closure of the municipalities of A Coruña and Arteixo, in addition to limiting meetings to people living together. This was explained this morning by the Minister of Health, Julio García Comesaña, who explained that the measures come into effect today at 3:00 p.m. and will last in principle until Tuesday, when it will be announced whether they continue or withdraw.

The Consellería de Sanidade also established the restriction of entry and exit in the municipalities of Santiago de Compostela, Ames and Teo, as well as in Ferrol, Narón, Fene, Neda, Vimianzo, Pontevedra, Poio, Marín, Vigo and Lugo. The municipalities of Ames, Santiago de Compostela, Teo, Ferrol, Narón, Fene, Neda and Vimianzo also move to level 3 of restrictive measures that apply from October 6 in Ourense and Barbadás. The other councils in which Sanidade announced today entry and exit limitation remain at level 2, active in Galicia since October 10.

Precisely, the city councils of the province of Ourense that were with restrictions maintain them “despite the good data” they recorded in recent days. The Consellería de Sanidade justified this decision in its concern for healthcare capacity from the area of Ourense.

This regulation contains exceptions. So, displacements can be made outside the closed municipalities to carry out the assistance and care of the elderly, dependents and children; carry out judicial procedures; or return to the place of residence, something that affects, for example, students of Galician universities or people who work and live in different municipalities. García Comesaña asked, however, that students avoid going home on weekends and returning to Santiago de Compostela during the week because it poses a risk to their family.

The Xunta justifies these measures in the epidemiological evolution in the Galician community, which worsened in recent days, as well as in the displacements that usually take place during the weekend. This Sunday is also All Souls Day, so that many people take the opportunity to go from the cities (with more cases of coronavirus) to the villages, which motivated the Ministry of Health to decide to close large municipalities to hinder the spread of COVID-19.

The incidence in the different areas of Galicia

The general director of Public Health, Carmen Durán, explained the epidemiological data of Galicia, which are not “what we would like”. The community has 154.74 in terms of the cumulative incidence at 7 days, while a week ago it was 137. “We are well below the figures for the Spanish average. We remain among the four communities with the most contained accumulated incidents,” Durán explained.

Most of the coronavirus cases are concentrated in Galician cities. The region of A Coruña is growing, a week ago it was at 79.3 in cumulative incidence in 7 days and now at 129. These figures are mainly due to the situation registered in the City Council of Coruña and that of Arteixo, but also worries Vimianzo.

In the region of Santiago de Compostela the measures are taking effect, but not at the desired level and has high cumulative incidents. The municipalities of Ames, Teo and Santiago are the ones who worry the most, the latter with 234 accumulated incidence in the last 7 days. Also in the province of Coruña, the region of Ferrol It has an accumulated incidence of 284 to 7 days, which is materialized in the municipalities Fene, Ferrol, Narón and Neda.

Lugo went from 134 to 204 in 7-day amulated incidence. The different types of restrictions that exist in Ourense They “pay off” but are not at their optimal levels. Currently, it has 153 cumulative incidence at 7 days, which implies an improvement although “we cannot relax,” Durán indicated. “The good news comes from the region of Verín. It is starting a descent in the curveIt is too early to say that there is a clear improvement, but there is a decrease, “said the head of Public Health. Also in O Carballiño cases decrease.

Pontevedra and Poio have an important growth. In the Council of Pontevedra the accumulated incidence went from 140.5 to 7 days of last week to 206 this week. Vigo has a continuous non-exponential growth, so the rates also increase and its situation worries as it is one of the large cities.
