For the past 31 years, the Labrador Retriever has been ranked as the most popular dog breed in the US. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) registration statistics, this all-time champion has been dethroneed.

According to the AKC, the French Bulldog has steadily climbed the list of most popular breeds over the past several decades. It reached No. 14 in 2012 and by 2021 it surpassed Golden. The retriever comes in second only to the all time king, the Labrador Retriever.
Part of what makes this breed so popular is its small size. The bat-like ears and wrinkled nose look cute, combined with a quiet demeanor. Because French Bulldogs generally don’t like to bark.
They also don’t require as much exercise as larger dogs. This makes it ideal for those who live in apartments or small homes.
