The 95th Academy Awards are upon us! The Academy Awards will be presented on Monday, March 13, starting at two in the morning (California will have Sunday at eight in the evening at that time) and before we get to the names of the winners (and another portion of gorgeous dresses), let’s reminisce about past years. Fantastic iconic gowns we’ve already summed it up, but who hasn’t got it right with clothes, on the other hand?
Billie Eilish – 2022
Sure, the famous singer-songwriter likes black and doesn’t put up with silhouette-defining clothes. But she was completely lost in the giant ruffled model! Gucci or not, this just doesn’t work. At least it is Billie Eilish she didn’t come in vain – she and her brother Finneas O’Connell (pictured) took home the statuette for the best film song. It was the song No Time To Die for the Bond film of the same name.
Jada Pinkett Smith – 2022
This couture gown by designer Jean Paul Gaultier divided the world into two camps much like the (un)lawfulness of the slapwhich you are the actress’s husband Will Smith closed the door on further awards. The emerald dress has its fans, but you’ll also find it on most worst Oscar models lists. And although the designer can’t be denied the great work with the fabric, this gown won the hearts of only a few people. There is simply too much of everything.
Kristen Stewart – 2022
Ruku na srce – from the actress’ fashion venture Kristen Stewart it won’t hurt anyone’s eyes. The black jacket and short shorts combo suits her and if it wasn’t for the Academy Awards ceremony, she wouldn’t be on this list. But the “Oscars” deserve much more effort, and microshorts are completely inappropriate for such an event.
Charlize Theron – 2010
The actress is a regular on the best-dressed list, but 2010 didn’t go well for her, despite borrowing a gown from her favorite brand, Dior. Flowers on the chest are a bold move, but somehow it’s not the case here. The appliqué is not flattering and it doesn’t look good even on the fabric itself, which creases in the lower part of the dress. This time it Charlize Theron it didn’t work out.
Gwyneth Paltrow – 2002
The actress was criticized for her Alexander McQueen dress immediately after the broadcast. Although it has Gwyneth Paltrow to the account of many amazing outfits, this one did not work. The star herself included them among her worst models: “I still love the dress itself, but I should have worn a bra and just had simple loose hair and less makeup. Then it would work.” The biggest problem is the absence of a bra – this fashion piece is not built to go “without a top”.
Jennifer Connelly – 2002
The actress had a great night in 2002 – she won her first and so far only Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in a Biopic drama Pure Soul. But what she didn’t do very well was clothes. Designer Nicolas Ghesquière’s Balenciaga dress isn’t bad in itself, k Jennifer Connelly but it does not fit in color or cut. The overall impression is further worsened by the scarf, which was popular at the beginning of the millennium, but not for evening models.
Björk – 2001
Icelandic singer Björk went down in fashion history with her swan dress. Are they hilariously cute? Or horribly cheesy? In any case, they are original and unforgettable. The now iconic swan, lined only with mesh, was created by the Macedonian designer Marjan Pejoski, and he made two copies of the model just to be sure. The clothes could not be cleaned. In the end, the singer got by with one, and the other was auctioned four years later for more than two hundred thousand crowns.
Matt Stone a Trey Parker – 2000
Creators of the cult South Park series they fully deserve a place in the worst top ten – and they would certainly be pleased! They thought about their Oscar outfits for a long time and it wouldn’t be them if they didn’t go about it a little differently… They came to the red carpet in iconic women’s models. Matt Stone (left) imitated the iconic Versace dresswhich JLo wore to the Grammys that same year, Trey Parker was inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow and hers in a pink Ralph Lauren dress from the Oscars 1999. Good job guys!
Juliette Binoche – 1997
French women have a reputation as fashion icons, actress Juliette Binoche however, she never experienced much fashion. And this was also reflected in the choice of model in which she went to accept her first (and so far also last) Oscar for supporting role in a romantic drama English patient. Designer Sophie Sitbon’s velvet dress was not flattering in cut or color.
Demi Moore – 1989
Sure, it was the late 1980s, but still – what was the actress thinking? Her incongruous mishmash with elastic shorts (today we would say bike shorts) is simply completely wrong. Fortunately, she made up for it with a good mood and a big smile. If you are wondering about the creator of this bizarre look, know that it was herself Demi Moore. She put it together from her favorite shorts, a corset and a heavy fabric with a floral print.
