The Woman Behind the Counter: During filming, the actors had to bring their own food. No one was allowed to touch it on the counters

The Woman Behind the Counter series premiered 45 years ago. Even today its replicas attract spectators. For some it is a nostalgic series, while others condemn it for communist propaganda. And also because of Jiřina Švorcová, who got the main role.

Though she has had a controversial past and has always been known to be a staunch communist, she still has her fans. Jiřina Švorcová died in 2011, but her legacy lives on in the TV series The Woman Behind the Counter.

“The Woman behind the counter series was created during communism. But it was Jaroslav Dietl’s job to celebrate the commissions. The craftsmanship there is fascinating. Maybe that’s why the series is so viable and keeps coming back,” she told about the movie for Czech radio Dvojka actress Lenka Termerová.

Challenging shooting

On the surface, the series looked like a calm and pleasant picture for fans. He exuded comfort and peace. The shops were full of tempting goods, their prices were low, the saleswomen smiled at everyone. But this was often a problem for them during filming.

Conditions weren’t easy then, and it wasn’t easy for actresses to play a laughing woman behind the bar. Some actors second Jimeto.cz they even injured him while filming the series, which didn’t add to the hilarity either.

For example, Jiří Hrzán liked to show off in front of his colleagues, but once it didn’t work out and he fell off the balcony. He then recovered for several weeks.

Own lunches

Actors didn’t have major luxuries while filming back then. If you think they can afford to sit around tables full of food and hang out with friends during breaks, you are wrong. Most of them even had to bring their own food from home in a saucepan.

“When the props, including the attractive goods brought in from different establishments, were brought to the shooting location in the morning, no one was allowed to touch them. You know how many times we went up, but we weren’t allowed to take anything,” revealed second Ah! Jirina Shvorcova.

“So we brought snacks from home,” added Vladimír Hlavatý. None of the actors would likely say filming the series was a walk in the park. To date, the series returns to television screens and enjoys great popularity.
