According to the data submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Hwang Hee, a member of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly on the 26th, ‘Status of unsolved and deceased Korean nationals’ missing persons while staying abroad’, the whereabouts of those missing overseas that have been counted since 2018 have not been confirmed. There are 41 Koreans who did not.
By country, the number of ‘unsolved missing cases’ was the highest in the Philippines with 11 people. This was followed by eight in Cambodia, five in Vietnam, five in China, four in Japan, three in Australia, two in the United Kingdom, and one each in the United States, Nepal, and India.
After the missing person report was filed, four deaths were confirmed in Australia, the United States, and New Zealand, three in France, two each in Guatemala, Malaysia, and Pakistan, and one each in Vietnam, China, Japan, South Africa, Spain, and Papua New Guinea. There were 27 people in total. In particular, it was found that one of the missing people in China has not been confirmed for more than 2,000 days after the missing person was reported.
In addition, in the Philippines and Cambodia, which were the countries with the highest number of unsolved disappearances, there were zero cases in which deaths were confirmed after missing persons were registered.
Rep. Hwang said, “The missing people are precious people who are eagerly awaited by their families and acquaintances.”
