COVID-19. As the holiday season approaches, the second wave of the pandemic continues to strike vigorously in the Drummondville region.

In the past 24 hours, no less than 86 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Center-du-Québec. In the Drummond RCM alone, there are 39 new positive cases.

In total, the health region including Mauricie has had 128 new cases since yesterday, for a total of 6,344 people infected since the start of the second wave. Among them, we find 798 cases still active and 5,431 people recovered.

For the entire territory, there has been a slight decrease in hospitalizations (40) since yesterday, but a slight increase in patients requiring intensive care (10).

In addition, a death has occurred at a community accommodation resource within the past 24 hours. The coronavirus has claimed 115 lives since July 12 in Mauricie and Center-du-Québec.

Outbreaks

In addition, the Sainte-Croix hospital now combines with one less outbreak, for a total of two. In fact, the situation returned to normal at the overflow unit (hot zone) on the 4th floor. However, a new bedridden patient in the medicine and palliative care unit was tested positive.

The situation worsened on the side of the CHLSD Frederick-George-Heriot, where four other residents of the 1st and 2nd West units contracted the disease.

Good news, no additional cases have been diagnosed in the three private seniors’ residences currently in outbreak, namely the Auberge du Bon Conseil, the Résidence Jazz and the Saint-Joseph accommodation center.

In schools

At the Center de services scolaire des Chênes (CSSDC), there were three new cases, a student at La Poudrière high school, a staff member at Marie-Rivier high school and an employee at the elementary school. Christ the King. The number of active cases is 30 in schools in the Drummondville region.

In accordance with the measures put in place by the Government of Quebec, CSSDC students and staff are no longer present at the school, from December 17 to January 10 inclusive.

Finally, remember that since December 16, the gargle test is available in screening clinics in the region.
