Namur has the highest positivity rate in the country along with Hainaut. “We can feel the third wave shuddering”, underlines the CHU UCL Namur.
The province of Namur is on an ascending plateau. Indeed, the positivity rate is increasing compared to last week. We went from 11% to 12%. The gap is not huge, but it speaks volumes. Along with Hainaut, Namur has the highest positivity rate in the country. For example, Liège is at 10% and Limbourg at 6%.
But what is this positivity rate? The positivity rate refers to the percentage of positive tests, compared to the total number of Covid-19 tests performed. Nationally, this rate is 8.7%. This difference cannot be explained according to Benoit Rondelet, medical director of the CHU UCL Namur (Godinne site):
These figures show that the situation is not alarming, but it is worrying in the province of Namur. We are currently on an ascending plateau. All of the intensive care beds at Mont Godinne hospital are occupied while the situation is improving in the country at this level, so we must remain very careful. We do not know why the figures are so in Namur, but we must take them into account in our behavior.
We feel the third wave shudder
In addition, the rate of reproduction of the virus is also important in the province. When this rate exceeds 1, it means that the epidemic is expected to continue. We are currently at a median estimate of 1.119, the second highest in the country. As we already know, the end of year celebrations will be decisive:
We feel that people are less adherent to the measures, they are fed up and that is understandable, but there is no other solution than to follow the current measures. Tightening the screw would be pointless since it takes the support of the population for things to go better. In any case, we can say that we feel the third wave shudder.
With regard to hospitalizations, the figures are stagnant. During the current week, there are 130 people hospitalized because of Covid-19 and 38 people admitted to intensive care.
