The 1 BGN banknote, printed in 1974 with the monument of Mount Shipka on its back, reached a price of 2,000 BGN. This is clear from the platforms for free ads, reports “Telegraph”. The seller explains that it has a unique serial number, which is OU1357271.
The one-levka was taken out of circulation at the end of 1996, and until then the Bulgarian money was backed by gold. The interesting thing about the old banknotes is that during the long history of the Bulgarian National Bank, the banknotes were printed in Russia, Germany, England, the USA, as well as the former “State Printing Office” and “Decho Stefanov” State Securities Printing Office in Sofia. Especially the 1974 lev was printed in “Goznak”, USSR.
Older and used levets are 8-10 leva each. One of the conditions for the price of the banknote to be higher is that it looks like new and in no case has it been folded. A reference on the page of the central treasury indicates that there are currently 392,432 banknotes with a denomination of 1 BGN from 1974 available , which have never been in circulation, i.e. unused. Its price in the BNB is BGN 2.40 per unit including VAT.
Enterprising collectors have acquired whole bundles of old banknotes. There is an ad offering 100 leva banknotes, the price of one of which is BGN 3, and the pack costs BGN 300. The old green two-lev coins go for 4 BGN each, and the seller assures that the banknotes are in perfect condition, unused and stored in a safe. Also the serial numbers are consecutive.
Old, unused banknotes, printed in the period from 1951 to 2006, can be obtained at the cash desks of the BNB. In the stock list, there are BGN 3 and BGN 25 bills, which cost BGN 3.60 per piece including VAT. Of both banknotes, the stocks in the vault are over 100,000. The highest price is held by a 500 BGN banknote, issued in 1951. The BNB has nearly 200,000 bills with this denomination, the price of one of which is BGN 79.20 including VAT.
