The Valencia City Council reaches 13.6 million euros dedicated to the coronavirus

VALENCIA. The councilor of Finance of Valencia, Ramon Vilar, has reported the approval in committee of a new budget modification, the seventh so far this year, aimed entirely at issues arising from the coronavirus pandemic. Some credit transfers that have meant, in this case, 2.6 million euros.

Among them, it stands out the supplementation of € 800,000 for the announcement of a course of aid to local commerce and markets, with which said item reaches 4.2 million. In the same way that, from own resources of the own Department of Employment and entrepreneurship, an additional € 600,000 will be allocated for the call for aid to self-employed and SMEs. According to the councilman, this is not a “closure of resources” for this call since the intention is to increase it once the application deadline has closed, which ends in May.

In addition, an eighth budget amendment amounting to another 2.6 million euros has been approved, aimed entirely at social care for people affected by the coronavirus. The City Council reaches 5.3 million euros in this matter. This is a modification that, as explained by Vilar, is made with a surcharge to the municipal surplus from last year.

The Government allowed the City Councils to spend up to 20% on social services due to the pandemic, now the city councils like the one in Valencia allow to release all of this credit for whatever is necessary. In total, budgetary changes of € 13.6 million have already been made to address the coronavirus pandemic and its economic and social consequences.

In another order of things, the councilor has reported that the Valencia City Council continues to punctually pay its commitments to suppliers, workers or contractors. Since the declaration of the State of Alarm, 107 million euros have been paid, among which 46 stand out to suppliers, 3.1 to autonomous organizations dependent on the City Council, 9 million to the EMT and another 36 dedicated to the payment of payrolls and social security.

According to Vilar, the council is facing payments “without detecting cash stress, that is, we pay on time without treasury stress, although on the other hand, given the drastic reduction in debt that we have made in recent years, it would allow us to go to any bridging credit policy without difficulties if necessary. “
