The vaccination plan against COVID-19 is strengthened with the entry of a new batch of vaccines

Guatemala City, December 24 (AGN).- Prevention against COVID-19 continues to grow stronger in the country, now with the donation of 115,200 doses of Moderna vaccine and 172,800 doses of Moderna Bivalente.

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare (MSPAS) reported that the donation was handed over by the Swiss government to Guatemala.

It is a gesture of solidarity, which will complement the efforts of Guatemalan government for maintaining the care of the health emergency caused by the pandemic.

These vaccines will be distributed in more than 400 vaccination stations enabled throughout the national territory, located in the network of public health facilities.

From this story, through various strategies and methods, vaccination days are intensified COVID-19. It also makes it available to the population aged 6 and over to start, complete or strengthen their vaccination schemes, as appropriate.

booster dose

As for the bivalent vaccine, the FDA has approved it for use for people 12 years of age and older, as a booster also called third dose.

Likewise, it can be administered as a fourth dose in the most vulnerable population groups.

These are the population aged 12 and over, with risk factors (immunosuppression and/or chronic diseases), people aged 50 and over, and healthcare personnel.

The current recommendation to receive this type of vaccine is:

  • be at least 4 months old, after completing the primary two-dose regimen
  • be 4 months after receiving the booster dose of any licensed or approved COVID-19 vaccine.

Furthermore, as already stated by the art World Health Organization (WHO)the vaccine has a high level of efficacy.

It is safe and suitable for use in hard-to-reach rural communities. The component is stored at a temperature that reduces vaccine gaps and helps provide protection against the disease in the country.

vaccination plan

In addition to the vaccination commitment, the Health Portfolio has enabled the web platform www.vacuna.gog.gt, the objective of which is to advertise the immunization places available throughout the territory of the Republic, with details of the opening hours, addresses specifications and levels of influx of people.

To date, Guatemala administered more than 19 million 900 thousand doses of highly effective COVID-19 vaccines in preventing complications caused by the disease.

Of this figure, more than 8 million and 800 thousand correspond to first doses; another 7 million to complete the schemes and about 4 million and 72 thousand for booster doses.

The Government of Guatemala and MSPAS thank the Government of Switzerland for this fundamental support, thus reaffirming their commitment to work to strengthen the mechanisms of the plan.

The above makes it possible to guarantee access to the COVID-19 vaccine in a safe, free and fair way throughout the national territory.
