WASHINGTON, June 21 (Reuters) – The United States has decided to limit its use of landmines, the White House announced on Tuesday, as they are banned by many countries around the world, including their allies. of NATO.
US President Joe Biden believes these landmines have “a disproportionate impact on civilians, including children, long after the fighting has stopped,” the White House said in a statement.
This decision does not concern the American antipersonnel mines disseminated on the Korean peninsula because of the exceptional situation in this region and the commitment of the United States to defend South Korea.
