The unknown Chinese brand Asgard releases DDR5-4800

There is not much to say about the modules themselves: It is a generic DDR5-4800 with a capacity of 64 GB, while later they should be available at 32GB and 128GB. They work with a voltage of 1.1 volts, which is a plus, because it is minus 0.1 V compared to the JEDEC standard. Latencies should comply with the JEDEC B standard, ie 40-40-40. They should be available with the release of the Intel processor generation Alder Lake. It is not clear whether the manufacturer means the September launch or the availability planned for the end of the year, and it is also unknown whether Asgard will distribute the memory with bifrost (given the limited air transport capacity, this would be appropriate).

Perhaps more interesting (but also more confusing) is the company’s statement that DDR5 memory will be supported by Intel processors Tiger Lake, Intel Alder Lake, Intel Sapphire Rapids, AMD Van Gogh a AMD Rembrandt.

Intel models released so far Tiger Lake they only report support for DDR4-3200 and LPDDR4x-4267. According to some reports, at least some models could (when available) support LPDDR5, but Intel has not publicly announced anything like this. Classic DDR5-DIMMs issued by Asgard, p Tiger Lake they probably have nothing to do since the desktop Tiger Lake was canceled a long time ago.

Sapphire Rapids is a server solution where the deployment of standard DIMMs cannot be expected much without extended ECC support (DDR5 supports basic on-die ECC by default). There is also no clear link with the released DDR5-4800.

AMD Van Gogh an ultra-mobile APU with LPDDR4X and LPDDR5 support is planned. Again, there is no connection with both DDR5 and specifically desktop DIMMs.

The only two products that should be compatible with these desktop DIMMs are Intel desktop versions Alder Lake (Golden Cove + Gracemont + Gen12) a AMD Rembrandt (Zen 3 + RDNA 2).
