MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The British health authorities have confirmed this Saturday another 10,406 COVID-19 infections, in a further decrease in cases after the 12,027 declared the day before, although it has exceeded 120,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
The United Kingdom already counts 4,105,675 people infected with COVID-19 since the pandemic began, while 120,365 people have died from the disease; 445 in the last 24 hours, compared to 533 on Friday, and even below 450 on Thursday.
Regarding the hospital situation, the British health authorities have detailed that 1,492 more people have required a hospital admission in the last 24 hours. So far, 18,462 people remain hospitalized in the UK with the disease, 2,469 with mechanical respiration.
Meanwhile, more than 17.2 million people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the United Kingdom, while about 604,000 have also been inoculated with the second.
Among those vaccinated is the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who, after being inoculated, has urged the population to do the same. Khan, who suffers from severe asthma, has been vaccinated at Mitcham Lane Church in Wandsworth, the BBC reported.
Finally, the British Minister of Health, Matt Hancock, has advanced that groups of British people who have not seen their relatives in nursing homes for months will finally be able to see each other inside the facilities and even touch each other.
Hancock has explained that easing the strict measures in nursing homes is the “first step to get back to where we want to be.” Hancock’s statement comes before Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveils his “roadmap” on Monday to remove the nation from the current quarantine state.
