The Ukrainian Foreign Minister Discusses Bulgaria’s Support and Attitudes Towards Russia

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister spoke to Yana Nikolova

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba spoke especially for NOVA. He commented on the help that Bulgaria provides to his country both today and in the first days of the war. He also touched on the attitude of Bulgarians towards Russia and the Russian army – should we be grateful to the Russians centuries later and ignore their actions today.

Mihailo Podoliak to NOVA: Historically, you can be proud that Bulgaria immediately decided to help Ukraine

“In the first hours and days, it becomes clear to you that everything is about you. Even if it wants to help you, the country in question will need time to send that help. As the war deepened, we experienced both good and bad times with different countries. I can mention Germany. I can describe many discussions with different countries. We had good and bad moments with Bulgaria as well”, he pointed out.

“We are going through a stage like Bulgaria experienced, fighting for its independence, for its freedom. I always feel sorry when Bulgarians with pro-Russian feelings do not realize this. If you are grateful to the Russian army, which helped you to win your independence and freedom from the enslavers, it does not mean that for centuries you are obliged to forgive the crimes, cruelties, aggressions and occupations carried out by it. It doesn’t happen that way,” added Kuleba.
