The UA Library will lend objects from 2024 and encourages university students to donate

A “library of things” is a space where you can request temporary loans of everyday objects with very diverse uses. In this way, instead of purchasing objects to use them sporadically or occasionally, they are shared within the university community and, with this, their use is expanded and they become accessible to a greater number of people. With the name of Usotecathe University Library from University of Alicante presents this new initiative, which will provide service from 2024.

These types of projects seek to reduce the environmental impact caused by the purchase of infrequently used instruments by individuals, as well as the reuse of objects, promoting the circular economy.

The Usoteca service will be carried out, mainly, from the Media librarybut some materials will be loaned to the rest of the university libraries. This project aims to increase the type of objects that are already lent in libraries, such as laptops, e-book readers or music stands, among others. Initially, it will begin with the loan of learning support materials and, subsequently, it is intended to expand the range of objects to sports tools and supplies, musical instruments or any object that responds to the described characteristics.

Thus, from the UA University Library invite the university community to participate in the initiative by donating objects they have at home, that are in good condition and whose use is infrequent. For more information and how to participate in the donation, you can consult the web address of the Media library.

The Usoteca service is created thanks to an agreement signed between the University of Alicante and the Generalitat Valenciana, through the Department of Finance, Economy and Public Administration, Productive Sectors, Commerce and Labor, and also has the support of Commonomy and Company Territory.
